FAQ's

How soon can I see you?

You will be offered an appointment as soon as possible after contacting us. Early treatment means a speedier recovery. If we fail to offer you an appointment within 3 days, then you decide whether you want to pay us for the first appointment - no questions asked.

Will I be treated during my first consultation?

Yes. Our focus is on reducing your pain or discomfort as soon as possible, you cannot do that with just talking.

What is involved during assessment?

Our aim is to ease your pain by getting to the root of its cause. So the first thing we do is examine where the pain is and find out what’s troubling you. Because we’re dealing with joint and muscle problems, we may need you to undress so that we can fully examine you, so please bear this in mind when you choose clothes to wear, before you come for your appointment. Below we’ve highlighted some common treatments and the body areas we’ll need to examine, along with some suggestions for suitable clothing. You may also feel more comfortable and relaxed if you come along with someone you know well, to chaperone you. All patients under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone - this is a legal requirement.

Neck and shoulder assessment & treatment.

You’ll be asked to undress to your waist, so females are advised to wear a suitable bra.

Arm and hand assessment & treatment.

Elbow and hand pain can often originate from the neck, so you may be required to undress to your waist. Again, females are advised to wear a suitable bra.

Lower back and hip assessment & treatment.

You’ll be asked to undress down to your underwear, so suitable underwear is recommended. You may choose to wear shorts, as long as they are not too restrictive.

Knee and lower leg assessment & treatment:

Generally, only exposure below the waist is required so shorts are advisable. Please note that some pain below the knee may originate from the lower back, so suitable underwear is advised.

Once a diagnosis has been made, your physiotherapist will recommend an appropriate course of treatment and therapeutic exercises. Like most things in life, the more you put in, the more you get back out. So it’s therefore important that you do your best to follow the advice and exercise plans given to you. After all, it’s you we’re trying to make better.

How long does a treatment take?

Treatments last approx. 30 minutes.

Will I be given exercises?

Yes. We will always give advice on the management of conditions and appropriate exercises to do in between treatments to optimise the recovery process. Tailor made exercise sheets can also be given

Do I need a GP referral?

No GP referrals are not necessary but if you have one, bring us a copy of the referral letter and any X-Ray, MRI’s that you have.

I have Private Medical Insurance - am I covered with you?

Of course. We are recognised by all the major insurance companies. Just check your own policy for its terms and conditions.

What about payment?

Unless be prior arrangement, payment must be made after each consultation. Receipts are given at completion of treatment session for tax or health insurance companies. Please check on the payment methods accepted in each clinic.

Do you know how many treatments I will need?

Whilst each patient is an individual, following your first appointment the Physio will discuss the anticipated number of treatments. You will be reassessed on each visit.

Will I be expected to do anything in between treatments?

Yes. But we cannot force you! We will always give advice on the management of conditions and appropriate exercises to do in between treatments to optimize the recovery process. Tailor made exercise sheets are available for you to take home.

Can I have a Home Visit?

Of course but the cost of a Home Visit has to include travel time from the clinic and so this does increase the cost of treatment. Please telephone for more details
